One day, while overseeing a renovation project in Ngaio, Wellington, we had a chat with a dump truck driver hauling away massive bins of timber. “At this rate, we’ll end up moving all of Ngaio to Porirua,” he joked. But beneath the humor lay a disturbing truth. Watching bin after bin of century-old timber go to waste awakened us to a problem—beautiful, irreplaceable resources from New Zealand’s native forests were being casually discarded. And so, The Timber Reclaimers were born, with a mission to reclaim, recycle, and repurpose native timber.
